Skoda’s Ultra-Affordable Kylaq SUV Could Be Heading to Europe With a Price Under $10,000

Skoda Auto is reportedly considering bringing its ultra-budget Kylaq SUV to Europe, potentially giving buyers a new low-cost alternative in the growing compact crossover segment.

Originally developed for the Indian market, the Skoda Kylaq currently starts at around $7,900 in India, making it one of the most affordable SUVs in its category. Now, Skoda executives say the company is evaluating whether the vehicle can be adapted to meet European safety and regulatory standards.

Skoda CEO Confirms Europe Is Being Considered

Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer confirmed that the automaker is studying the possibility of importing the Kylaq into Europe as part of a broader effort to offer more affordable vehicles to cost-conscious consumers.

The move would come at a time when European buyers are increasingly searching for budget-friendly cars amid rising inflation and higher vehicle prices across the continent.

If approved for Europe, the Kylaq would likely become Skoda’s entry-level SUV, positioned below the Skoda Kamiq.

The Kylaq was designed and engineered in India using Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform, a localized version of the architecture used for several compact vehicles in emerging markets.

Despite its compact footprint, the model offers a surprisingly generous 446-liter cargo capacity, helping it compete with larger crossovers in practicality.

Under the hood, the Kylaq uses a 1.0-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine producing 114 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque.
